At Home guides & Articles

Leaders in Churches in Schools will want to consider offering one or more events to introduce "Stories of God at Home: A Godly Play Approach" to parents or grandparents. We have developed guides (see the links below) filled with ideas and information about how to do this for each of the recommended stories. Godly Play Resources sells both the books and the do-it-yourself kits at a special price when you buy six or more to make introducing this to a group of families more affordable.

You might offer a series of parenting forums, reading through the book and introducing each story in turn. Show the introductory video, and then demonstrate each story (or use the demonstration videos). These events could include a time for parents to assemble one of the do-it-yourself kits from Godly Play Resources so they can go home with one of the stories!

Plan an inter-generational event or retreat to introduce one or more stories to families.
Use one of the stories as the center-piece of an inter-generational Vacation Bible School.
Host an event for clergy or lay leaders in your area to introduce this resource to them.

Circle of the Church Year Guide

Note: Parents will need support to do this work well. Spend some time talking about the art of wondering (some good information about this is on each of the guides mentioned above), and the reasons why we learn the stories by heart (as opposed to reading them out of the book). You might use just the second page of each guide as a hand-out for parents. It has the information about wondering, learning the stories, and the website - all information they need as they prepare to do this work with their children.
